Immigartion, Incarceration and Deportation Essays
Introduction I choose to research about immigration and incarceration and deportation because I believe there is a lot of racism with minorities specifically with Hispanics in the United States. This topic got my attention because immigration is an endless and controversial topic in the democracy system of this country. The capitalistic system in politics is very racism with minorities. This is a very touchy subject that millions of people is affected on a daily basis. Every state has different laws and in every state people experiences some type of discrimination. I believe no body would like to experience this kind of discrimination because the system is breaking apart families, there are millions of people that have died in theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This is not a fair punishment; they are targeting minorities because they know we are not wealthy enough to defend ourselves, to hire a lawyer to fight for our rights. We cannot even be our lawyers ourselves because to the Immigration Cust oms Enforcement system we do not have rights, and according to them once we are in their hands, we cannot do anything but to accept deportation. It creates a big punishment because people always risk their lives, and many people have already died while trying to cross the border again to get to this country. Inside the Immigration and Customs facilities the officers are raping women, they are not getting well cook food, sometimes they eat only once a day, and sandwiches is what they serve them most of the time. They do not allow lawyers inside these facilities, because they do not want to get suit by the corporations. They always tell undocumented people that if they get them in the system for the second time they will punish them with five years of jail or more before they get deported again. According to Angela Davis they were not consider to have liberty the same way they target on minorities, such as undocumented people who risk their lives running away from the political system in their countries, there is a lot of hard working people looking for jobs to better their lives and

Person-Centered Therapy (PCT) embodies a humanistic approach, which is intended to increase a personââ¬â¢s feelings of self-worth, and reduce the level of incongruence between the ideal self and the actual self (Gelso, Cepeda Davenport, 2006). This critical analysis is meant to examine various approaches and skills counselors/therapists would use when applying a ââ¬Ëperson-centeredââ¬â¢ type of therapy. This analysis briefly outlines what PCT is, but focuses more heavily on the various approaches used by social workers throughout the therapeutic relationship. More specifically, PCT approaches such as, counselor/client congruence, empathic understanding, and unconditional positive regard are the main approaches highlighted in this analysis as they play an integral role in the counseling relationship. My paper is based on a disability that many Americ Essay ans and I have, hearing loss. The nature, causality, assessment, prevention, accommodation, and my personal reflection of the hearing loss will be discussed in my paper. I. Nature of the Exceptionally: According to Gallaudet University, approximately 1 of every 1,000 infants is born deaf while 6 of every 1,000 are born with some degree of hearing loss. Permanent hearing loss at birth annually affects 24,000 infants in the USA. In other words, 6 infants per 1,000 will have a hearing loss in a least one ear that will affect communication, cognition, and educational development. Twenty to thirty percent of hearing loss in children occurs during infancy and early childhood. Some will suffer hearing loss in one ear or possibly both. There are different types of hearing loss. A conductive hearing loss occurs in the middle ear. This is where three small bones involved in hearing are located. A hearing loss that occurs in this part of the ear is usually temporary. A chronic or recurrent ear infections may cause a hearing loss in the middle ear. There are cases where there is a malformation in this area that can be improved or corrected through surgery. There are occasions when a problem in the middle ear can not be corrected. A sensori-neural hearing loss occurs in the middle ear and indicates that there is nerve damage. This type of loss is not reversible. In summary, there are different natures of hearing loss some that can be corrected or others that are irreversible. II. Etiology/Causality: Parents sometimes ask Why did this happen to my child? In some cases, the cause of a childs hearing loss may be easy to trace. There may be a family history of deafness, a congenital condition, an illness, an accident, a prescribed medication, etc., that may obviously be cause of the hearing loss. In many cases, there may be no obvious reason for the hearing loss. Parents must come to understand that they may likely never know the cause of this hearing loss. In my case, Meningitis was the cause of my hearing loss. When I was one year old, I was not responding to my parents calls. They took me to the hospital to get tested and found that I had Meningitis. III. Assessment Many birthing facilities in our country have currently adopted the Universal Testing of all infants for hearing loss. The two most frequently used measures for testing infants are the ABR (Auditory Brainstem Response) and Otoacoustic Emissions (OAEs). Both measures can be made on an infant while he or she is sleeping and requires no response from the child. The ABR monitors brain activity. It looks specifically, however, the activity that happens in response to sound. OAEs are a quick, non-invasive probe measure that determines cochlear, or inner ear, function. The importance of early childhood development is critical for a child with a hearing loss. Early diagnosis and intervention of hearing loss can mean the difference between toddlers entering school with severe language and concept delays versus children with age appropriate language and concept development. Early hearing screening paves the way for children to be able to begin life on an equal footing with their hearing peers. Recent research at Gallaudet University indicates that children whose hearing losses are identified in the first 6 months of life, and who receive intervention services, developed language within the normal range. IV. Prevention/Remediation/Accommodation: The law mandates that public schools are responsible for providing an appropriate education within the childs neighborhood school. Joy Luck Club In the novel, The Joy Luck Club, by Amy Tan, the characters Suyuan and Jing-Mei Woo have a mother-daughter relationship confused with scattered conflict, but ultimately composed of deep love and commitment for one another. Because of drastic differences in the environments in which they were raised and in their life experiences, these two women have some opposing ideas and beliefs. This, and their lack of communication are responsible for many of the problems they face in their relationship. These conflicts are only resolved when June learns about her mother's past. The way that their relationship develops, and the conflicts June and Suyuan face, reveal some of the themes that Amy Tan intends for the readers to learn. These themes concern such topics as finding our life's importance, making choices, and understanding ourselves and our families. Most of the conflicts that June and her mother face are based on misunderstandings and negligence concerning each other's feelings and beliefs. June does not understand or even fully know her mother because she does not know about her tragic past and the pain she still feels from the memory of it. Because Suyuan lost two daughters in China, and her entire family was killed in the war, she leaves this place behind her and places all of her hopes in America and her family there. She wants the very best for her daughter June. Even her name, Suyuan, meaning "long-cherished wish," speaks of this hope for Jing-Mei, meaning "the pure, essential, best quality younger sister." Suyuan tells her daughter June that she can be anything she wants to be, and that she has great talent. At first June is excited and dreams about what she will become: "In all my imaginings, I was filled with a sense that I would soon become perfect. My mother and father would adore me. I would be beyond reproach. I wou ld never feel the need to sulk for anything." (p. 143) Suyuan pushes June to be successful in many different areas such as dance, academics, trivia, and piano. After failing to excel at each task set before her, June begins to feel more and more resentment towards her mother. She sees her mother's hopes as expectations, and when she does not live up to these, she feels like a failure. The final incident, when June performs a piano piece filled with mistakes at a talent show, makes June believe that her mother is completely ashamed and disappointed with her. June looked through the crowd to her mother's face. She thought to herself, "...my mother's expression was what devastated me: a quiet, blank look that said she had lost everything." (p. 143) What June did not realize, was that the real reason why her mother was upset was not because she had not lived up to her expectations. She was unhappy because June did not care about having the best for herself. She did not have high hopes or a passion to be successful at anything. She failed because she did not try and she did not care. This is in strong opposition to Suyuan's high hopes that origi nate from the stron g love she has for her daughter. It is not until much later in her life, after Suyuan's death, that June realizes just how much her mother loved her and how proud she was of her. After Suyuan's death, and after June learns more of the details about her mother's past, June's eyes open to the good intentions her mother always had for her in all of the ways that she acted. She realizes that her mother was proud of her even though she was not a great genius at anything. After Waverly humiliated June at the dinner table by stating that the work she had done for her firm was not good enough, Suyuan attempted to display her pride in June by giving her the jade pendent she always wore, which symbolized her life's importance. She wanted June to know that her life had value and that she just needed to develop and use her talents in order to discover this. After her mother's death, June begins wearing this necklace every day. She also thinks back to her
